Animated Chinese Ink Painting Course

Students of iMandarin enjoyed an interesting Cross-Culture Course of Chinese painting. To stimulate the students' interests, a bird with vivid eyes was realistically painted by the teacher at the beginning of class, and students became enthusiastic over roses as painting target. However, roses are a little bit complicated for junior wash painters, then, they turned themselves to grapes according to the teacher's suggestions.

During the class, there was a rather amusing episode unexpectedly. One student forgot to add water into Chinese ink to dilute, and his painting appeared to be a dark Chinese ink painting style, that really contributed to the animated atmosphere of class. By contraries, another student had talents in clair-obscure and won high praises from the teacher, because her work was similar to a famous Chinese painter's.

With the fulfillment of grape painting, the teacher led students to challenge senior level, painting chrysanthemum flower. It is a common phenomenon that Chinese ink painting artists love to depict chrysanthemum, which represent Chinese spirit of leaving away from fame and gain.

Two weeks ago I attended the Chinese Corner offered by the school on Saturday morning to study language in Shanghai and I have to say - it was GREAT! I had more opportunity to just chat and practice my ( admittedly limited! ) Chinese than I have had in a whole year here in Shanghai. It was a chance to actually USE all that passive vocabulary , hear native speakers speaking perfect Mandarin , do some role plays and just generally build up my confidence. In my experience of trying to learn Mandarin Chinese, there is never enough emphasis put on SPEAKING - but now you have it! It's free and it's fun and, believe me, it really helps.
