Asia Pacific Leadership Program 2010

The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) is six- and nine-month certificate program designed to help students and professionals focusing on the Asia-Pacific region to develop as leaders in their chosen field.
Hosted by the East-West Center at its campus in Honolulu, Hawai’i, the APLP uses course work, group projects, field trips, skills workshops and a three-week field study to help participants develop regional literacy, cultivate leadership skills, network with colleagues and mentors cerate strategic plans for career development and learn how to function in multi-cultural environments.
APLP graduates will be prepared to be more knowledgeable about the societies, issues of the Asia- Pacific region; and trained exercise leadership to promote cooperation in a variety of cultural and geographic institutional environments.
Asia Pacific Leadership Program leverages its unique geographical and institutional attributes in order to broader the global discussion and practice of leadership, creating novel approaches and exploring new paradigms. The result is a program that differentiates itself in four important ways:
● Leadership in the Asia-Pacific
● Leadership throughout society
● Leadership through learning
● Leadership and culture
Basic Funding provisions:
● Tuition and fees for course work at the University of Hawai’i approved by the Center,
● Health insurance,
● An allowance for books, materials and supplies, and
● Costs of the field study.
Funding by the Student: (supplementary funding from the EWC is also available)
● Program fee of US$ 3,000 / program,
● Roundtrip airfare from home country to Honolulu,
● Living expenses (including housing and personal expenses) at approx. US$ 990 / month, and
● All other personal expenses not covered by the East-West Center.
The program invites applications from:
● Recent bachelor’s degree holders
● Graduate students
● Early to Mid-Career Professionals
Application requirements:
● A completed scholarship application form and University of Hawaii’s application form,
● Two (2) official transcripts from each institution attended,
● Three (3) Letters of Reference in the form of letter provided by the East-West Center,
● Official test score report of either ITP-TOEFL* (550 score required) or 213 score on computer-based and 79-80 for Internet-based TOEFL; or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall band test score of 6.00 for international applicants or non-native speakers of English.

Candidates must submit all required application materials including test score report directly to the East-West Center (the Center’s code number: 4868) no later than December 1, 2009. The Award Winners will be announced in April 2010 and the program will commence in August 2010.
